Coverage After Plan

This is the total coverage rate, adding current coverage rate with the additional coverage rate provided by a certain Guaranteed Commitment plan.

Coverage After Plan is the combined percentage of eligible resource usage covered by commitments, calculated by adding existing commitment coverage and the additional coverage introduced by a selected commitment plan. It shows the projected coverage level if  the plan is adopted , assuming current usage patterns remain similar.

Components

  • Current Coverage: The percentage of usage already covered by visiting commitments before adding the new plan.
  • Added By This Plan: The incremental percentage of usage that the proposed commitment plan is expected to cover.
  • Resulting coverage After Plan: The sum of current coverage and additional coverage, capped at 100% of the relevant usage.

Why It Matters

Understanding these metrics is vital for cloud financial management. It helps organizations avoid over-commitment by clarifying when a new plan might push coverage near or beyond actual usage levels. Furthermore, it supports long-term planning by demonstrating exactly how a proposed strategy improves protection relative to current benchmarks, providing a critical visual check to ensure commitment strategies align with real-world consumption patterns.

Examples:

  • If current  coverage is 68.9% and a new plan adds 16.4% coverage, coverage after plan becomes 85.3%, indicating substantial room for additional safe commitments.
  • If current coverage is 75% and a candidate plan adds 35%, coverage after plan reaches 110%, signaling potential over-commitment risk and prompting reconsideration of the plan size.
